Hailing from San Diego, Peterson — a revolutionary yacht designer whose credentials extended into multiple winning America’s Cup campaigns, offshore racers and iconic West Coast cruising boats — passed away in 2017 at the age of 71. Coast Guard Rescues Sailors in Tomales Bay
On Thursday evening, the 40-ft sailboat The Witch ran aground in Tomales Bay amid 25-mph winds and six-foot waves. The boat hailed the Coast Guard.

Yachties to the Rescue in the South Pacific
It was yachties to the rescue after the 50-ft Danish ketch Gwendoline M hit a submerged object and started sinking in the South Pacific on Tuesday. The two people on board, owners Kim and Lene Egtved, put out a mayday after hitting the unidentified object 50 miles west of Niue Island about 5 p.m. More »

Saildrone Circumnavigates Antarctica
Back in late March, a sail drone made the first-ever autonomous rounding of Cape Horn. Richard Jenkins, the CEO and co-founder of the Alameda-based Saildrone, said that the vessel, known by the designation SD 1020, had been “released from New Zealand two months ago, and is on track for a six-month circumnavigation of Antarctica.” More »
Sacrificial Sliding Hatch
