Apologies to Navtec and Lewmar
We hate it when we make mistakes, and never more so when they reflect badly on somebody or some company. But that’s just what we did in the December issue.
We’d received a letter from Ed and Karen Lane of the San Diego-based Valiant Esprit Nordic 37 Blade, who reported that they had not been able to participate in the Ha-Ha 17 they’d signed up for because the diesel engine they had ordered on January 15 of ’10 — and were repeatedly promised would arrive shortly — did not arrive in time for them to have it installed for the October 25 start. Final Day of the Blast
Today is the third and final day of the Banderas Bay Blast, the ‘nothing serious’ cruiser regatta and social extravaganza now in its fifth year. As always, the last day is also the Pirates for Pupils Spinnaker Run for Charity, which will see the 20-boat fleet carry chutes — and lots of guests who donated money to the charity — for 12 miles in tropical sailing conditions from Punta Mita to Paradise Marina in Nuevo Vallarta. Blast to Start on Wednesday
Ideal tropical sailing conditions are on tap for Wednesday’s start of the Banderas Bay Blast, three days of socializing, fundraising and ‘nothing serious’ cruiser-style racing just outside of Puerto Vallarta. Co-organizer Mike Danielson reports that prior to this morning’s net, 17 boats had signed up, with a total of about 30 expected. More »
Another Host Family Needed
In July, we put out a call for a sailing host family for German exchange student Viviane Farke. She found one and we’ll bring you a full report on how she and her ‘family’ are doing in an upcoming issue of Latitude 38, but Cheryl Williams, the placement coordinator who contacted us about Vivi, reports that another young German sailor is hoping for a sailing host family as well. New Dates for AC Meeting
Apparently the revised budget figures that have been cropping up around the Host City Agreement negotiated between BMW Oracle Racing and San Francisco have delayed the approval process. Now the agreement will not come before the Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Finance Committee until December 8 at 11 a.m. More »
