Sunny Pacific Sail Show

Yes, we know it was a beautiful weekend for sailing and Opening Day. We watched enviously as boats sailed past our booth at the Craneway building while we exhibited at the Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show, but we also had a fabulous time chatting with an endless parade of visitors during the busy four-day show.

At the Latitude 38 booth we had a number of contests, new apparel, a scavenger hunt and visits from many esteemed sailors and guests. The latter included world voyager, author and founder of  the ARC Rally Jimmy Cornell; the Grand Poobah himself, Richard Spindler, founder of Latitude 38, the Baja Ha-Ha (25th annual edition coming up) and numerous other sailing shenanigans; a visit by April cover artist Jim DeWitt; and many others. Many showed up for our Friday night party in Assemble Restaurant with beers from East Brother Beer Co. and wine supplied by Twin Rivers Marine Insurance.

Early Sunday morning our new admin help, Monique Selvester, was ready to greet you while we watched the start of the Volvo Ocean Race on the monitor.

Hugh Bussell, who sails with Club Nautique, won a free ticket to the show at our April Crew List Party and showed up at our booth to sign up for ‘Lectronic Latitude and another daily drawing, hoping his winning streak would continue.

This is the best way to check out a USCG rescue helicopter. Seeing one overhead at sea is second best.

We had a fun scavenger hunt with prizes from show exhibitors like Pineapple Sails. Lucky winner Kaitee Hering, wife of Eron Swedberg of CPT autopilots and owner of the Islander 32 Paniolo, had fun participating with their 2-year-old son Spike. She picked up her prize from Pineapple Sails at the show’s end on Sunday.

A day on the Bay and a day at the show would have made for a perfect weekend combo. For us it was all show all the time, but we’ll be back on the Bay this weekend. We look forward to seeing you on the water soon.

There was a lot going on this weekend, so we feel lucky to have braved the traffic on Saturday to drop in on Treasure Island Sailing Center’s Opening Day.
