Potter Yachters and Dolphins Share Offshore Cruise to Catalina
We love sharing stories of the Potter Yachters’ adventures on the water. These little boats are the quintessential “fun” boats. At least that’s what we gather from the stories and photos we receive. Jim “Goose” Gossman often sends us updates of the Potter Yachters’ sails. This week, Goose shared photos from the Potters’ cruise to Catalina, during which he enjoyed a spectacular dolphin encounter.
Goose writes: “Just woke up to a spectacular sunrise on Potters’ annual Catalina sail. My best-ever dolphin encounter teared me up.”

“Unfortunately, my hand-painted “Footprints in the Sand” surfboard was lost … apparently by a freak gust that somehow freed it. Damn!! If you hear something, let me know.” Regards, Goose.

Despite the loss of his board, we get the impression that Goose and the rest of the Potter fleet enjoyed a memorable cruise to Catalina.

When I was sailing down the coast on my Potter 19 I encountered many pods of dolphins. Sometimes they would stay with me for up to 30 minutes. Maybe they just like Potters.
The French sailor Bernard Montessori recalled an incident where a pod of dolfins repeatedly warned him of danger he was sailing into until he realized he was headed for rocks.
