Grab a Latitude & Head for the Hammock

We think you’ll like the cover of the May Latitude 38. Perhaps best titled simply as “Smokin’,” it shows the West Coast-based Hotel California, Too roaring down a wave at the recent Voiles de St. Barth in the French West Indies.

The prediction is for more warm, sunny weather tomorrow, ideal conditions for touching up your varnish or venturing out for a light-air sail on San Francisco Bay. But when you’ve soaked in an ample dose of vitamin D, we suggest you grab a copy of the just-published May edition of Latitude 38, retreat to a comfy spot in the shade, and absorb all the latest sailing news from the Bay and Beyond.

In Sightings, you’ll find a roundup of all sorts of sailing news, including a Hawaii race update, a report on a dramatic offshore rescue, plus online registration announcements for both the 21st Baja Ha-Ha cruisers’ rally and the 2nd SoCal Ta-Ta rally.

Boats in one division of this summer’s Pacific Cup will carry the Latitude 38 logo. Read about it in Sightings.

Our local coverage kicks off with our annual pitch to get your kids off the couch and out into nature aboard sailboats, along with comprehensive listings of every yacht club and ‘community access’ sailing program we know of.

In addition to local racing coverage, this issue features firsthand reports on both Mexico’s MEXORC Copa Corum and the St. Barth Bucket, in the French West Indies. Meanwhile, the biggest annual cruiser migration is now taking place between the West Coast of the Americas and French Polynesia. Read our second installment of profiles of many Tahiti-bound Pacific Puddle Jumpers.

As always, our Changes in Latitudes section brings you timely and topical coverage of cruising adventures around the globe, and this month our World of Chartering section focuses on the Bay Area’s fleet of professionally crewed six-pack (six passenger) charter vessels.

What is 20-year cruiser Judy Jensen up to these days, and what is that strange object next to her? Find out in this month’s Changes in Latitudes.
