Labor Day is the time we honor those women and men who campaigned for workers’ rights and improved conditions, such as sick leave, paid time off and safe work conditions. Today we express our gratitude for those who help us take care of our boats, and the waterways. Whether your engine needs servicing or repair, your bottom needs painting, or you need a new cleat on your dock, someone gets the job done. And for those someones, we are grateful.

The women and men on the Working Waterfront who weld, paint, scrape, repair, rig and support both recreational and commercial maritime activity are our heroes. Thank you to all!

The ports of Oakland, Stockton, Sacramento, San Francisco, Redwood City, Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Diego are among the many industrial places along the coast that keep our country going. It’s unlikely the port workers are all having the day off. A big thank you, also, to all who keep the ports running.

However you choose to celebrate Labor Day, we wish you a safe and happy time doing it.
