SailGP Launches Season 2 This Week

For the past week, SailGP teams have been training in Sydney Harbour in anticipation of the first regatta of 2020 on February 28-29. National teams from Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, Spain and the United States take on reigning champions Australia in a series of high-speed short-format races.

The Basics

  • Official training day, Thursday, February 27 (it’s already Thursday morning in Australia when we post ‘Lectronic on Wednesday).
  • Racing on Friday, February 28, 3-5 p.m. AEDT (February 27, 8 p.m. PST).
  • Racing on Saturday, February 29, 4-6 p.m. AEDT (February 28, 9 p.m. PST).
  • Three races are scheduled per day.
  • An event exclusion zone will be in place on Sydney Harbour one hour before racing.
  • Race courses will be set daily according to wind direction.

The 2020 eSailGP Championship gives fans a chance to test their skills piloting the F50 catamaran in a virtual environment. The championship winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the ROCKWOOL Copenhagen SailGP in September, a ride on the revolutionary F50 catamaran, and automatic qualification to the eSailing World Championship Final.

The championship will feature seven qualification events over the course of the season. The winner of each will clinch a spot in the eSailGP Grand Final on August 14. The top youth player will receive a wild-card berth.

eSailGP races are 5-6 minutes long and include up to 10 players per game. eSailGP is available for free as of yesterday and can be played on Desktop, iOS and Android.

    Qualifier: February 25-March 3. Final: March 3.
  •   Pop-Up 1
    Qualifier: March 20-22. Final: March 22.
  •   Pop-Up 2
    Qualifier: April 10-12. Final: April 12.
  •   San Francisco eSailGP
    Qualifier: April 29-May 6. Final: May 6.
  •   New York eSailGP
    Qualifier: June 9-16. Final: June 16.
  •   Pop-Up 3
    Qualifier: July 31-August 2. Final: August 2.
  •   Cowes eSailGP
    Qualifier: August 6-13. Final: August 13.
  •   Grand Final
    August 14.
