Rare Fogbow Lands on Marin
Al Fricke was sailing aboard his Catalina 36 Jubilee when he snapped these great photos of a ‘fogbow’.
“I’ve been on the seas a lot in my life, but on Thursday I saw, for me, a rare fogbow. Thought you might enjoy it, taken right off the Marin Coast as I was heading toward the salmon fishing grounds on my Catalina 36.”

Whereas a rainbow results from the reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in rainwater droplets, according to EarthSky, a fogbow results from the same phenomenon, but “with the small water droplets inside a fog instead of larger raindrops.”
What’s the most picturesque display of nature you’ve seen while out sailing?

I did the 2019 transpac and one night on watch I saw a squall in the distance that produced a rainbow with the light of the full moon. It was amazing and the of the highlights of that race.
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
