A shocking bit of news came out of western Europe over the weekend as current Vendée Globe champion and Banque Populaire skipper Armel le Cléac’h and a shorthanded crew capsized the brand-new Banque Populaire IX maxi-trimaran west of Morocco and the Strait of Gilbraltar while on a delivery from the team’s base in Lorient, France, to Nice for the boat’s first major regatta. Dean Barker Wins Ficker Cup
Dean Barker dominated the 2018 Ficker Cup to win the Grade Two World Sailing regatta and advance to the Congressional Cup, which will start this Wednesday. Also qualifying for the Congo Cup is Johnie Berntsson of Sweden, who finished second in the three-day regatta hosted by Long Beach Yacht Club. More »

"I raced against your mother." That’s what Dorian McKelvy told Gordie Nash at Golden Gate Yacht Club during the Seaweed Soup Regatta in San Francisco this winter. Currently the skipper of the J/111 MadMen, McKelvy used to sail the Hawkfarm Spitfire on San Francisco Bay back in the 1980s and raced against Jocelyn Nash, who owned El Gavilan. More »
