Baja Ha-Ha Entry Deadline Extended

Picture yourself out on the ocean wearing shorts and a T-shirt, sailing south within a huge flotilla of adventure-hungry voyagers. It’s a glorious feeling.

Although the 2013 Baja Ha-Ha Rally Committee is very serious about its fleet safety, they have intentionally made a minimum of rules, while trying to be as flexible as possible regarding special situations.

In fact, they’ve just extended the published September 15 entry deadline until this Friday, September 20, at 5 p.m. After that, you still may be able to get in, but you’ll have to email the Committee with your special request. Needless to say, the later you register, the more administrative headaches you create, so why not follow that over-used Nike motto and ‘just do it’ (soon).

This being the 20th edition of this world-famous San Diego-to-Cabo San Lucas rally, there will be some special enhancements to the normal shoreside activities, and many ‘repeat offenders’ have re-upped for another dose of Ha-Ha hilarity. So please join us if you can. (If you don’t have your own boat, check out the cruising section of our online Crew List for ride possibilities.)

Don’t forget your costume. Needless to say, the BHH send-off party in San Diego is big fun. You’ll meet lots of like-minded sailors there – although you may not recognize them when you meet again later.

There are currently 154 paid entries, which makes this Ha-Ha one of the largest offshore cruising rallies in the world. Interestingly, both the smallest and largest boats registered so far are from Sausalito. Dan Krammer’s Pez Vela is an Ericson 29 and Rick Niello’s Ticket II is a Jeanneau 57. Meanwhile, we’re told that Ted and Vicky Davis of San Diego are considering entering their splendid 70-ft S&S yawl Alsumar. We certainly hope they pull the trigger, as this Olin Stephens’ classic would look sensational leading the fleet south to sunnier latitudes.
