Lord Jim’s Unplanned Refit

When the famed 72-ft gaff tops’l schooner Lord Jim hit a rock off the coast of Brazil last spring and sank, many assumed that she would never sail again. But they underestimated the resolve of owners Holger Kreuzhage and Tracy Brown. More »

New Marina in Apia is Good News for Cruisers

Because Bob Bechler has done several Baja Ha-Has and several Pacific Puddle Jumps aboard his Gulfstar Sisiutl, he’s become sort of a ‘roving reporter’ for Lat 38. A few weeks ago he wrote in about the  South Pacific Games, and the opening of a new marina in Apia, Samoa, a place which had previously been thought of as having few facilities for cruisers: Bellingham’s new marina in Apia is a huge plus for cruisers. Baja-Bound Boater Update

As in years past, berth availability is tight, tight, tight in San Diego at this time of year. Mexico Cruisers Heading South

"This time of year, every time the weather is good the marina fills up," said Scott Pryor of the Monterey Municipal Marina. This writer was lucky enough to grab the second to last slip at the 413-berth facility, having just sailed down from San Francisco aboard Tom Liliienthal’s Beneteau 41 Dreamseeker. More »

The Pacific Puddle Jump Diet Plan
