As of yesterday afternoon, the Coast Guard was still broadcasting a "Local Notice to Mariners" for Pteradactyl, which has been sailing on its own since owner Luc de Faymoreau and crewman Disun Den Daas were washed overboard when a "freak wave" pitchpoled the boat on the way home from last Saturday’s Doublehanded Farallones Race. This weekend’s Doublehanded Farallones Race ended prematurely for Moss Landing’s Luc de Faymoreau and Disun Den Daas aboard the former’s Olson 40 Pterodactyl. De Faymoreau said they were five miles east of the Farallones when both — who were not clipped in — were washed overboard by what he described as a "freak wave." More »
DH Farallones Skipper’s Meeting Tonight
The skipper’s meeting for the Doublehanded Farallones Race is on for 8 p.m. tonight at at the Oakland YC. Although attendance isn’t compulsory, race sponsor BAMA is requesting that all skippers attend as any changes to the sailing instructions, division breaks and start times will be announced there. Clippers Delayed, Santa Cruz Stop Shortened
Dismastings in the Clipper Round the World Race will delay the start of the upcoming Honolulu to Santa Cruz leg. That delay will result in a shorter Santa Cruz stopover to make up the lost time, according to organizers, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s Clipper Ventures. More »

Court Validates BMW Oracle’s Challenge
Yesterday New York Supreme Court Justice Herman Cahn struck down America’s Cup holder Alinghi’s appeal in the protracted battle for who gets to challenge for the Cup and when. The decision validated BMW Oracle Racing’s Challenge for the America’s Cup 33 which means that, in order to not forfeit the match, Alinghi will need to meet BMW Oracle in October. More »
