3rd Annual SailFest a Hit
Since the editors were locked in the ‘editorial dungeon’ all weekend putting the final touches on the October issue of Latitude 38 — which will show up at all the usual places on October 1 — roving correspondent John Skoriak agreed to lend a hand and staff our booth at Modern Sailing’s 3rd Annual SailFest in Sausalito yesterday. "It was a blast," Skoriak reports. "There was a good crowd, lots of activity, and tons of sailing. And the weather was superb, of course." Thanks for rubbing it in, John.
SailFest was started three years ago to introduce folks to sailing, and has grown each year, thanks to the efforts of Modern’s staff, the support of area businesses, and, of course, attendees. "The goal is to get the sailing community together around a music festival," says general manager and co-owner Jack Majszak. "It was a great combination of music — the James Moseley Band with Lynn Asher rocked the house — food, and waterfront activities. We sent out seven boats four times each for free sailboat rides, and every one was packed to capacity. We introduced a lot of people to sailing yesterday."
Majszak reports that about 500 people drifted through the free event, which he hopes will grow to a full weekend at some point. Wish we could have been there!
