Velocitek and TracTrac Have Formed a Partnership to Simplify Sailboat Race Management

(San Mateo, CA April 7, 2026) Race organizers using TracTrac’s Race Manager can seamlessly add the Velocitek RTK Puck’s highly accurate automated starting system for $50 per day per boat.  Contact your TracTrac or Velocitek representative to confirm availability or complete the intake form on the Velocitek website here

Velocitek, the first provider of RTK GPS automated starting technology outside of the America’s Cup and SailGP, and TracTrac, the leading provider of real time GPS tracking that makes hard-to-follow sports engaging, now offer a unified sailboat race management platform.  Customers of either company can now access the full set of race management and tracking services through a single platform and services agreement.

Jay Leon, CEO of Velocitek said: “We have tremendous respect for Chris, Jakob, and the TracTrac team.  The top events in our sport rely on TracTrac to make following their sailboat races over the internet simple, easy, and fun.  Now that the Velocitek RTK Puck automated starting capability has been integrated into the TracTrac platform, race organizers have everything they need in one place.”

The sport of sailboat racing has long had to balance tradition and technological advancements.  TracTrac and Velocitek, each founded in 2005, have helped guide the sport for two decades as it has adopted new digital and GPS-enabled technologies.

“The accuracy of the Velociteky RTK Puck will enable us to build new capabilities into the TracTrac Race Manager and improve the experience for both race organizers and sailors.” said Chris Terkelsen, CEO of TracTrac.

Competitors and race organizers are having to spend an increasing amount of time and effort selecting, deploying, and managing technology. This partnership between Velocitek and TracTrac is a step toward making technology easier to deploy on the water during events.

“We envision a world where the many technology platforms used to run sailboat racing events work together seamlessly.  Beginning with event promotion and running through the after party. Data should only have to be entered once, reports should be complete, and everything should be governed by a single agreement.” Leon said.  “We are excited to be taking this first step towards creating this new world with our TracTrac partnership.”

With this partnership, race organizers can now manage automated starting with Velocitek’s RTK Pucks from within the TracTrac race management application.  Some of the benefits of the combined capability include:

1) Centimeter-accurate start line management powered by Velocitek RTK, with a synchronized start timer controlled directly in the TracTrac interface

Race committees can set and manage the start line using Velocitek RTK, delivering true centimeter-level accuracy for consistently fair starts. The Velocitek start timer is fully integrated into the TracTrac race management interface, allowing RC teams to arm, trigger, and monitor the entire sequence from one place. This reduces workload on the signal boat, eliminates manual timing errors, and creates a definitive, high-precision record of the start.

2) TracTrac’s proven live tracking enhanced by Velocitek’s precision data for a complete real-time view of the race

TracTrac’s trusted tracking engine combines seamlessly with Velocitek RTK’s high-accuracy positioning, giving organizers, sailors, and spectators a unified, real-time picture of every boat on the course. The addition of Velocitek RTK data sharpens the fidelity of the tracking, improves course-side decisions, shortens protests and scoring reviews, and delivers a clearer, more compelling race story.

3) Unified interface for starts and tracking: Velocitek and TracTrac working together in one dashboard

Race organizers can control Velocitek-powered automated starts and monitor TracTrac live tracking from a single streamlined dashboard. There’s no app-switching or duplicated setup—just one clean workflow for the entire race management team. The result is simpler configuration, better coordination, and a more consistent experience across the event.

Race organizers are not required to utilize both services, and can customize the set of services they feel best suits their requirements.

Race organizers can contract with either company for these services.
