DANA POINT – Aventura Sailing School’s very own Ric Dahlin and Lori Johnson were 2 out of 25 instructors chosen from over 2000 active ASA (American Sailing Association) instructors around the globe. To have two instructors selected as outstanding instructors of the year is unprecedented and reflects the quality of instruction being offered at the Aventura Sailing Academy.

This Award honors the top 1% percent of all active status ASA Instructors as determined by Instructor Surveys that are submitted by their students. Of the 2155 Instructors in 2022 who had active status, 973 taught at least one ASA class and thereby became eligible for this ASA Award.

Captrain Ric Dahlin holds a USCG 100T Masters License and is certified to the highest ASA level, ASA 211- Master Instructor. He has logged over 3500 days on the water. Ric has served as instructor with the Aventura Sailing Academy since 2006, and is currently the Director of the Aventura Sailing Academy. This is Ric Dahlin’s second time being selected as ASA Outstanding Instructor of the Year (2021, 2022).

Captrain Lori Johnson holds a USCG 50T Masters License and is certified up to 204/214. She has logged over 750 days on the water. Lori has served as an instructor with Aventura since 2021.

In addition, Lori has received much of her sail training through Aventura and has been a constant advocate for both ASA, and the Aventura Sailing Academy.

Both instructors are an integral part of the sailing school’s success and popularity within the Dana Point community. The classrooms overlook the beautiful Dana Point Harbor and is arguably the best training facility in the whole West Coast of the United States.

Aventura Sailing Academy offers ASA certifications, including the 200 series courses that grant you the right to become an instructor for the respective ASA course.   All of our Instructors are ASA certified and can guide you through each step to obtaining any certification you choose.
