Say that three times fast. Triple hard chime, triple hard chime, triple hard chime. Can you please tell me what that is?
00:14
I’ve entered the VIP section and it looks very VIP. We got heaters, we got people of all sorts, we got some lights, some music, some jewelry, a bar. I’m gonna put the microphone down, cruise around, get a drink, and then I’ll report back soon. International Boat Show, Newport Beach style. Here we go. The show continues.
00:38
another press and he’s from anchor or something mr. anchor news club my name is Eric and I represent my social media and what brings you here to this event I’m traveling all around the world and filming everything interesting from all of the boat shows around wait you’re literally going around filming all the boat shows exactly all around the world so you’re definitely not at anchor maybe in some kind of point yeah
01:05
Did you see the people who had the surfboard, the jet surfboard? Caralina crew. Yeah, they were really cool. I hung out with them for a little bit. exactly. They have so much interesting stuff. They have charters. They have boards. They have everything. Now, are you a boater? Yeah, I’m a boat owner as well. What kind of boat do you have? Not a big one, 20 foot. Well, hey, I got a 1977 Cal 34. So it’s all good. We love those small boats. Not many small boats here today, though, huh? Oh, you have a sailboat.
01:34
I was going to purchase one of those ones, but I found out I’m not ready for that so far. Alright, now it’s getting loud, but nice to meet you Mr. Anchor! Alright, we’re gonna listen to this live music.
02:03
We are listening to a live violin right now. It is beautiful.
02:13
the Newport Beach International Boat Show!
02:23
Thank you guys!
02:28
So at the top of the show, I met Shannon and she said, gotta find a dude who’s dressed up like a captain to get him on the podcast. This is the Good Jibes podcast. Would you like to say hello to the Latitude 38 Nation? Hi, Latitude 38 Nation. I’m just Latitude 33 minus six degrees. Well, that’s great. Now, how’s the boat show going for you today, Captain? I see all the medals. Congratulations on all of your accolades. I appreciate it. The medals are actually my grandfather’s. I dropped out of everything I tried. Boy Scouts, all the camps,
02:58
But I keep trying and that’s all I can say for your fans is just keep trying. keep trying. That’s a sailor’s attitude is just keep trying. Now have you ever sailed before? I sailed once to a song called Come Sail Away, but it was a music video not an actual voyage.
03:15
You know what? That’s still technically sailing. I like it. Do you have any wisdom that you can give to our listeners, to fellow sailors? If you wax your bolt hole enough and you see reflection and you want to marry yourself, you did a fine damn good job. All right. Now, will you let Mr. Anchor take a picture of it? Yeah, I would love to. Anyone named Mr. Anchor holds it down. All right. We’re going to take a picture here. All right.
03:39
I just want to say you smell like success or shrimp cocktail. Either way, I like it. Isn’t it that same thing? It is. Well, cheers to shrimp cocktails and success. And now, why don’t you go chat with Mr. Anchor. On my way, Anchor.
03:56
was asking Captain Courageous over here if he had a song and he said he rapped and I said I rapped too. So here’s a sailing rap. And sit right back for the six hour tour. Gonna see some dolphins, that’s for sure. Gonna see some waves and wind and salt if the boat tips over it’s not my fault. Get to the island, ship and shape. Thanks to the captain and the first mate. Throw out the anchor, hope it takes. Damn this shit is gonna be great. Hoi hoi hoi hoi hoi hoi.
04:25
boat and boat that’s my freestyle like a moat. Ahoy ahoy.
04:33
In the VIP lounge, guess who I ran into? so good to see you. How’s it been since I saw you last? Oh my gosh, this has been amazing. The International Boat Show here in Newport Beach has been so much fun. So many great boats, people. It’s been super fun here at the lounge too.
04:51
If you’re a power boater or you’re a sail boater or fast boat, whatever you like it, however you like it. So much fun. It’s all week and long. Thank you for having me. It so nice meeting you. Thank you. Good night and have a great rest of the show if I don’t see you. Fair winds. Yes, and following seas. Peace out, everybody.
05:12
And now it’s Sunday and I’m approaching the Newport Beach International Boat Show once again, this time with my lovely wife, Cynthia. Cynthia, how are you doing today? I’m doing good. We’re looking forward to going to hop on some boats and I’m going to meet up with Mr. Anchor and we’ll see if we see any other friends. So we’re getting our walk on and walking in. Ladies and gentlemen, Kenyon Martin here. Tell us about what boat I’m standing on because this is a pretty impressive beast right here.
05:39
You’re standing on the 2024 Hansa 458. This boat is built in Germany by the Hansa Corporation.
05:47
and I saw the little tender two over there. Is that a 41? That’s more my style and size, but I went down inside and it’s like the same thing, but just increased a little bit. Like you took a zoom on your phone and you just zoomed it and increased the photo size. Similar, similar. Yeah, that’s the 41. We’ve got a 38 up in our Marina Del Rey office and I’ve got a brand new designer, 46 sitting at the factory currently. And that one’s gonna be getting on a ship here at the end of the month. We’ll have that landed here in June. So those are pretty similar sizes as you make the jumps. So how many different jumps are there? We start out with
06:17
So 315, 348, 388, 410, 458, 460, 510, 590. OK. So we’ve got one size for everybody. OK, I love it. I’m definitely like next door there. I’ve got a 1977 Cal 34, so it’s going to be a jump for me. Classic.
06:36
talking to the Latitude and Good Jives Nation out there, bunch of sailors, might have not stood on this boat. I mean you’re literally standing on the swim step as the back has opened here. Correct. Oh and then on the swim step. Oh my gosh. barbecue built in right here. A barbecue under the seat. So you can tailgate. Okay but what happens on to a stadium, you can go tailgating right here in the back of your boat. That’s pretty fancy. You know it’s all about the effective use of spaces. I also heard there’s a lazarette in the bow. Correct. Okay for all of your things because there’s basically nothing on deck and it’s super sleek and sexy but when you’re out there there’s
07:06
like shit that ends up being everywhere so you this place has a place for everything and everything for its place we like to think so
07:14
Hansa’s Hansa’s actually the number two production builder in the world you put Janelle Benetto group together, okay? You know same company Hansa’s the number two production builder in the world built in Germany as I said before Hansa’s kind of known for their self tacking jib like a catamaran essentially right? Yeah, self tacking jib. Set me through that for somebody I have not sailed with that just makes it easier for single handings Trim your sails in trim your main and jib together turn the wheel tack or jive don’t touch a wench
07:39
Jib’s gonna come over, your boom’s gonna swing over, you’re now on the next board. I’ve sold a couple haunts to a client, Effortless One, Effortless Two is the name of the second This is unbelievable, I sit back here and I don’t have to touch a thing, my clients or his friends that go sailing with him don’t know what they’re doing, he doesn’t have to worry about somebody like maybe jamming a finger or something. And they both perform quite well. Well I would love to take this out single handed, this looks like quite a beast. Quite manageable, retractable bow thruster, again performance is what we’re oriented with, so having that retractable
08:09
bow thruster, no drag on the boat once it retracts up. do mean? Does it just like, just sticks out the side and then comes back? Pivots down at about a 45 degree angle, kind of like landing gear. Like landing gear Oh my goodness. Another piece of German engineering. almost as simple as my 1980 something laser, which is also my second favorite boat. I raced lasers myself quite a bit and it’s one of the best platforms out there. So a good step is to go from a laser to this then. Certainly. Okay, what’s your smallest boat that we can move from the laser up?
08:38
We can get you into a 31 foot. That’s perfect, because I’m already 34. Well, do you have a 34? We do have a 34. I want the 34. popular. Is that it right there? Most people that see a 31 actually step up to the 34. It’s just got a little more layout. We sell more 34s than 31s. And I’m going to Catalina Island, and I need to make sure I’m able to hang out in the headroom and all the space is important. What does a 34 cost? What’s a cool cost on that? Going to run you close to $300,000. OK. Now we’ve got, of course, tariffs to deal with.
09:07
Do you know how that’s going to impact you or you just know that it Yes, I do. I’ve actually got a boat landing in about two weeks. It’s the first one. So as soon as it hits US soil, I’m going to get hit with a 10 % tariff on it. And you’re going to pick that up, right?
09:20
You’re not gonna pass that on to the consumer? Wait, aren’t you picking that up for us? Is that how we’re paying for this today? Yeah, well you could just, I’ll take without the bow thruster and then full pay. Does the 34 have a bow thruster? I don’t think so, right? 34 does not have a bow thruster. 41 has an option for one. We do not have a bow thruster on that boat. 38 has an option for a bow thruster. This 45, again, does have a bow thruster. Some of the bigger boats we do bow answer and thruster. If you need training wheels, we can put them on there. Okay, well awesome.
09:50
Well, thank you. That’s what we’re pushing. You know, all these boats that are in stock, pre-tariff inventory. OK. By now, it’ll never be cheaper. thing now. Oh, awesome. Have you ever put any of these in the Classy Classifieds in Latitude 38? Have not done the new boats in the Classy Classifieds. think about it. That’s kind of an interesting angle, right? Like, if it’s technically a day old, it’s used. And then what if you throw it in there and you might have people see it that wouldn’t normally see it? I don’t know. I’m just thinking outside the boat here. I just found out that Kenyon forgot a model. What was the model that he forgot?
10:17
360 360 so maybe that might make more sense because if I’m at a 34 now to go up a little versus stay Got one finishing up the factory next month. All right, is that tip pre-tariff or poster right now? It’s no tariff because it’s sitting in the factory. Okay, that’s here That could go away. So, you know call us. I gotta make my move now call us. We’ll make a deal All Let me put a let me put a mental deposit on it and then we’ll we’ll check it out. But sorry three copies That’s all we need
10:47
No offense, but I’m gonna go check out some other boats. I’ve lost my wife, she’s on to another one, but this has been fun chatting. For sure. If people wanna learn more about these boats, where do they go? Seattle Yachts. We’ve got offices all in down the West Coast, and we also have offices in Florida and Annapolis. Awesome. Well, thank you so much, sir. It was great talking to you. Cheers. I gotta go. I gotta put my shoes on, then I go. Today, I took shoes that I can slip on and off. Game changer. Good move. Yes. Hey, listen up.
11:14
We hope everyone is enjoying listening to the stories of West Coast sailors on our Good Jives podcast. We’ve heard lots of great feedback from the 150,000 listeners who’ve tuned in over the last couple of years. And if you have a marine business, we’d like to give you an opportunity to connect with them during upcoming podcasts. If you’d like to be a sponsor of future podcasts, you can email Nikki, N-I-C-K-I, Nikki at latatoo38.com.
11:40
to learn more about how your company can benefit from sponsoring Good Jives.
12:02
And it is, you you called it right, it is a Tender. That is the model name. It’s a Tender 11. Tender with 600 horses. Yeah. Yes. That’s like a Tender 200. They’re a Tender divided by, six divided by, anyways, go ahead. Where’s the sail? Where’s the sail? Where’s the sail? I’m just I know, right? I love a good sailboat too, All so let’s hop on. Let’s hop on. Yes, he is. He is.
12:26
Thank you for calling my gingerness. proud. Look at this little cute thing next to it. We might have to talk to him. OK, let’s go. Let’s talk about Let’s go. All right. So Nimbus is made in Sweden. And what they’ve done is they’ve started these European style boats with the triple hard chines and the twin steps in the hull. What’s a triple hard chines? Say that again. A triple hard chine.
12:44
Say that three times fast. Triple hard chine, triple hard chine, triple hard chine. Can you please tell me what that is? So I’m going to point over to this boat over here, and I know we can’t see it. But you can see those three big lines that are in that hull. Those are the chines. And what it does is it creates a resting space. It helps the boat kind of dig in and be a little bit more stable when you’re banking really big turns. then as you. Little mini skags on the front. Yep. And as you.
13:12
move aft, kind of see the step that’s in the hull. They put two steps. see that. It looks like somebody hit it, like took a chunk out. Yeah. It’s like a little carve out. And what it does is it, it’s called an air lubricated hull. And so it churns up the water and adds air. So it lowers the density of the water beneath your boat. Less friction. Yep. And then it allows you to pop up on a plane easier and faster than a traditional displacement. How big is this beast that we’re on? This one is a 40 footer.
13:39
and it is part of their WTC series. So they have a weekender model that has a little more coverage. They have a commuter model that has a full cabin enclosure. And then this is the tender model that has a tee top. It’s more of a walk around style, but all of them are going to have a lot of accommodations and they have a lot of versatility. I kind of, I affectionately call these the Swedish army knives. It’s a multifunction boat.
14:03
You can kind of do whatever you want. bar table in the top, in the front there too. You sure do, yes. Let’s jump down in there real quick. Looks like only three people can sit at the helm. At the helm, and then we have this huge area back here as well where you can probably fit 12 more people. This is very transformable. Oh yeah, everything looks like it moves and connects. Right, so we currently have it set up as a U-shaped settee and you can pull…
14:24
extend this table, you could do dinner service. Oh, that’s beautiful wood. Or if you’re just say you’re running to Catalina and you’re pushing 45 miles per hour, which this boat absolutely goes. Is that what it idles at? Yeah. What is the top speed on this thing? It’s about 45, 47. Yeah, and flat water, you can really crank it up. Best part about these is how they drive and how they handle because it’s very stable. It’s very fast.
14:47
And it’s fun. When is the model going to come out with wings on it or you know foils? that in the great question. Wouldn’t that be fun? I don’t believe they have plans to put foils on them yet. We should talk about it. They do drive so fast you kind of feel like you are floating on top of the water. with that air lubricated hull. And you’ve got some fridges down here too? Yeah we’ve got a couple fridges. This actually does have a full outdoor galley. So you pull this up. There’s a sink. There’s room for a cooktop here even though this one is not equipped currently. Yeah.
15:13
Down below, you have a surprising amount of accommodations. There’s actually two full different sleeping areas, as well as a full head. The headroom is generous. Oh, yeah. You do have a regular V-bird’s head. Feels like a sailboat in here. And then under here, you actually have another queen-size bed. And you have to kind come around to get a good look at it.
15:35
But that always that surprises a lot of people when they come down here and notice there’s a whole stateroom there. And then we do have a full head within a closed shower. Very cool. Well, hey, you know what? I was going to get the thirty four Hans, but my tender to can’t be bigger than that boat. So I might have to move up to the next level on the hands to put this next to it. We go. Yeah. Get you the four sixty perhaps. And if somebody wants to talk to you about how they get their hands on some very exciting tender to like this, where do they go or?
16:04
Who do they talk to? Reach out direct to me at Tiffany at SeattleYachts.com or you can check out our website as well. Well, thank you so much on behalf of Latitude38 and the Good Jibes Nation. I appreciate this little tender to tour. Thank you so much. I appreciate your time. And I ran into a good friend of mine here. Amy, how are you doing in today’s show? It’s been a great day. The sun is finally out and we are excited and have lots of people here today. Selling some Turkish towels? We are selling a lot of Turkish towels today. We’ll see you soon on our podcast with our new partnership.
16:34
Is that Mr. Anchor? Mr. Anchor, is that you? Exactly. This is me. My name is Eric and I’m representing my social media, which is Mr. Anchor News Club. Go and check everything you know about our boating. You can find there.
16:47
for any taste. Mr. Anchor, well I met you at the VIP last night, that was pretty fun, it was nice and loud. Yeah, But I see you’ve got your camera and your setup and everything in hand here. You’re just filming that Mystic boat that goes 140 miles an hour. got boats all around. What do you think of this boat show? Because you said you travel all around the world to boat shows. I’ve everywhere, yeah. I’ve seen so many different stuff. I’ve seen so many big, small yachts. Right here in Newport.
17:14
beach there’s a really pleasant people around which I really like it well you’re from Canada which makes sense because you’re pleasant and you attract the people who you are like so perfect good all right well I see your eyeball scouting around for your next meeting your next piece of content we’re gonna let you get to it and we should reconnect and do a podcast sometime we good luck today good to see again sir and go anchors away yeah
17:41
Well, I’ve had a lot of fun walking around some of these huge boats and I’m on another huge one. This is the second largest in the fleet here at the boat show and I’ve made my way around and I’m cruising and there’s just a lot of boat to take in here. A couple of jet skis, a jacuzzi.
17:59
a little second or third deck. I’m not even sure which one I’m on. I’m gonna go see if I can find my wife. Sin is cruising. She’s got a particular way she flows through the boat, which is great, but I lost her. Hello. Are you guys crew? Well, I’m here from Latitude 38. We have a podcast called Good Jibes. I’m looking for the sail and I can’t find it, but we’re a sailing magazine. So we’re getting a glimpse of the luxurious life here. I don’t know much about this boat. Would one of you like to tell us a little bit about it?
18:27
So this is a 130 Westport. It was built in 2002 and then refit in 2014. And we are primarily a charter boat. We charter up in Alaska. So we do our summers up in Alaska and then winters in Costa Rica. And fun fact, it’s actually Johnny Carson’s old boat. Really? That is funny.
18:45
Yeah. How many crew on the boat? So we’ve got eight crew. We can run with seven, but preferably eight. Yeah. So we’ve got our captain, engineer, chef, two interior, and then three deck crew. Awesome. And if I was to check out something on the boat or find it, what is the coolest piece or part of this boat? My favorite is the very top, the fly bridge. It’s a little bit more quiet up there. And when we’re up in Alaska, the views are just incredible.
19:12
How long does it take you to get to Alaska? So if the weather is good and we’ve got like a good window and we don’t have to stop at all, it’ll take about six days and that’s going like 24 hours a day. What are you cruising at? What speed are you cruising at on that? We’re going at about like 14 knots. Okay, so that’s moving. That’s a lot of weight to move through the water. Well, awesome. Hey, good Jives listeners. Are you looking to sail more? It’s the biggest mismatch on the California coast.
19:40
There are thousands of boats not sailing because they need crew and thousands more sailors or soon to be sailors who want to sail but can’t find a boat. For over 45 years Latitude 38 has been connecting boat owners with sailors to sail or race the bay or travel far over the horizon. Some connections have turned into thousands of blue water cruising miles or race winning cruise or long term relationships or just happy days of sailing.
20:04
If you have a boat or want a crew, add your name to the Latitude 38 crew list at Latitude38.com. You don’t know where such a simple act will take you.
20:16
Can join too? Yeah, sure thing. Alright, I found the captain. We’re going to the engine room. We’re coming on down. We’re recording for a good jibes episode from Latitude 38. Alright. Welcome, welcome. You got a few captains here then. I’m gonna sell out Captain Pierre as well. What’s up Captain Pierre? How are you doing? Fantastic. Now, I know you guys are captains of big boats, but are you sailors as well? I was looking for the sail on this thing. Couldn’t find it. I’m a fisherman. I’m a commercial fishing ground.
20:45
Well the engine room is where you make the wind right? There we go. Let’s check it out.
20:52
How big of a horsepower do we have on this thing? So you got two MTU 4000s, they’re just over 2,700 horsepower side. And then you got two 65 kilowatt generators, strong deer engines, four cylinders as well. I’ve got a 1977 Cal 34 and I’ve got a 30 Westerbeek. So wow, this is a little…
21:12
These are by far the biggest engines of day. It’s a little cleaner than my bilge, I’m not gonna lie. We do our best. We got a lot of hands to keep it up. We’ll keep it up guys. We’ll see you around. Thank you. Thank you. Definitely cleaner than bingo.
21:29
Okay, I’m back with the captain who is a captain of comedy if I am not mistaken because you’re the funniest person I’ve talked to you today. I really appreciate that. You’re obviously drunk. No, I’m not, but you make me feel drunk. How’s that feel? It makes me feel really good inside. I got little bubbles just popping in my belly right now like a little bubble factory. Well, if people want to hang out with you in your bubble factory, where do they find you? Catching a wave, usually in San Diego. You know, the whale’s vagina.
21:57
Your Instagram handle, my friend. Wesley Duane, W-E-S-L-E-Y-D-W-A-I-N-E. Why Duane the Battoom? Because I’m drowning. And we’re going to shut this podcast down. It’s been a fun day. And I’m going to let you close out the show. How does that sound? We’re never stopping. So if you’re vibing, get out your wine, get out your vodka, and fly in first class with your taste buds, even if you’re livers and coach. All on a sailboat. We love it. Thank you, Captain. All right.
22:24
And that’s a wrap. I gotta go back and talk to Mr. Anchor. We got some stuff to talk about. Talk about some more international boat shows. It’s been a pleasure. If you want to connect with Latitude 38, definitely do that. And if you want to connect with me, definitely do that too. Contact me at Ryan.Online and let’s talk podcasts. Let’s talk sailing. Let’s figure it out. Let’s come up with a creative way to share more of the sailing world to the Latitude 38 nation. I’m out. Hopefully you can hear this. It’s a little loud. It’s good vibe.
22:56
Hey, thank you. You were the first person I met and we’re final one to leave. How’s it been going? How was the show for you? It was great. Thank you so much. All right. Congratulations on the great show. And just like that, from the beginning to the end, the first person I met, last person I saw on my way out. I’m walking back to the car. How exciting. Boats that I can’t afford with people that I don’t know. And I had a great time. What do you know? But really, it was fun to be on these boats and cruise around and
23:25
talk with them and all the different vendors and special shout out to all of our Latitude 38 sponsors because there’s a lot of them here and it’s great to see the representation all the way up and down the coast of California and super exciting for the SoCal vibe to be sharing all these crazy boats with people. I’m walking through a crosswalk and there’s cars going everywhere. Hey buddy, I’m walking through the crosswalk right here. My goodness. That’s okay. Be safe out there. Watch out. I almost got hit by a car.
23:54
but I didn’t. You guys have a great day. We’ll see you online sometime. The ship has officially left the building or the dock. It’s time to go home.
