Thistle PCCs

July 19 – Pt. Richmond

It was a windy (in the 20s) weekend for 14 Pacific Coast Thistles,
with square waves on normally flat Keller’s Cove.

Terry Lettenmaier of Seattle, editor of
fleet magazine Bagpipe, won the championship, placing
first or second in all five races. Terry’s crew were brother
Dennis and wife Laurie. The unofficial Latitude 38 award
for best boat name goes to second place finisher, Dale Hinman,
with Loco Beef (he has a picture of a mad cow on his transom).

The event was hosted by Richmond Yacht
Club, and you can view more photos at their Web site, www.richmondyc.org.
We hope to have complete results in the August issue of Latitude 38.

For Race 3, the race committee threw in a reaching mark.

The first downwind leg

Sayonara’s (not that Sayonara, but nice job on
the graphics) skipper, George Samuels, got conked on the head
during the second race, requiring 6 staples and no more racing
for the weekend.

The De-Naming Ceremony
I once met a man in Florida who told me he’d owned 24 different yachts and renamed every single one of them.
