Harbor Island West Marina Launches $70 Million Redevelopment on San Diego Bay
SAN DIEGO — [March 12, 2026] — Harbor Island West Marina announced that construction will begin this month on its long-awaited redevelopment project, marking a major milestone in the transformation of one of San Diego Bay’s most established waterfront destinations.
The $70 million project is designed to support recreational boaters, marine businesses and the greater San Diego community. Spanning 3.8 acres of land and 22 acres of water, the large-scale project includes substantial waterside and landside improvements that will modernize marina infrastructure, enhance guest amenities and introduce new public-facing spaces reflecting San Diego’s world-class waterfront lifestyle. Upon completion, the revitalized Harbor Island West Marina, located at 2040 Harbor Island Drive, will feature 623 new slips for vessels from 20-to-140 feet, expanded boater amenities and 16,000 square feet of commercial space.

“This project represents a major investment in the long-term future of Harbor Island West Marina,” said Eric Leslie, CEO of Beauchamp Leslie Management & Development. “We’re proud to move into construction with an experienced team and a shared commitment to quality, safety and minimizing disruption to marina operations throughout the process.”
Waterside construction will be led by Bellingham Marine, a California-based leader in marine construction, whose project scope includes new dock systems, upgraded utilities and significant marina infrastructure improvements. Pacific Building Group, the award-winning, San Diego-based general contractor behind Portside Pier’s construction, will lead landside construction to deliver a new boaters’ lounge, fitness center, pool and spa, as well as a public viewing deck and waterfront promenade designed to enhance access to the San Diego Bay shoreline. The project design team is from AO, a leading architecture, design and planning firm based in Orange, Calif.

Funded by private ownership capital and financing from Wells Fargo, the project is supported by a new 50-year lease agreement with the Port of San Diego that reinforces a long-term vision for Harbor Island West Marina as a premier recreational boating destination on the West Coast.
The Beauchamp Leslie team draws on its over 50 years of experience in marina operations and design to modernize Harbor Island West Marina and ensure the redevelopment project balances the marina’s legacy with the needs of today’s boating community.
Construction will begin in March, with work carefully phased to maintain marina access and operations wherever possible. Harbor Island West Marina will continue communicating updates to boaters, partners, stakeholders and the broader community as the project progresses.
