Club Nautique Sailing School and Club Declares Bankruptcy

It is with great sadness that we report that, on December 31st, Club Nautique members received the following email from the owners, Stephanie and Jason LaChance:

Dear Bob,

I’m writing with very difficult news to share.

As of today, December 31, 2025, Club Nautique has permanently ceased operations and will not be reopening. Since the pandemic, operating the business has become increasingly challenging in ways that were largely beyond our control. Despite our best efforts to adapt, recover, and explore every possible path forward, we have reached the point where we lack the resources to continue.

All Club Nautique memberships are terminated effective December 31, 2025, and no further dues will be charged.

If you are currently on a holiday charter, please return the boat to its slip at the originally scheduled time and leave the keys in the drop box.

We know this news is disappointing, and we are sincerely sorry for the disruption and frustration this may cause. Any claims related to refunds, unused benefits, or other amounts owed will need to be addressed through the bankruptcy process. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

We are deeply grateful to you for being part of the Club Nautique community. It has meant a great deal to us to be a part of Club Nautique with you.

Sincerely,

Stephanie and Jason

Very sorry to hear this sad news. A terrible loss for Club Nautique members, boat owners and the Bay Area sailing community.

I learned to sail there. But they were more interested in selling boats when they were having members bring their own boats into the club.

Oh my God, I agree that’s something steady as the sun coming up has gone by the wayside. I was a long time instructor there in mostly Alameda and met my wife who blessed me with two children there who was one of my students, although we got together after class was over, I didn’t poach. I just hope Bilge the cat who lived out a long and comfortable life there. He famously hated to sail. It’s like a huge part of my past has been taken away but leaving great memories as Buffett would say. Aloha and very best to the whole Club Nautique community.

Gosh, I also met my wife at Club Nautique. I started as an instructor at CN in 1983 when it was on the Estuary, became the Membership Director soon after and stayed in that position until I left in 1993. I met so many wonderful people during that time. I’m still in touch with some of those folks 40 years later. As I ponder the closing of CN I can’t help but realize what a significant impact that place had on my life. Well, farewell CN and all the Nautheads that passed through you over the years.

Hey Doug – good to hear from you. We probably connected through Club Nautique as well. It’s a painful loss but many good memories and sailors out there because of it.

Hey Doug, it’s been a long time. Good to hear from you. I recall going out on a CN boat with you back in 1987 or so. Just an fyi, I’m retired and an active member of Tradewinds Sailing Club. Let’s get together for lunch or something.

So sad to hear a school, that has been a fixture of SF Bay sailing, since 1980 is gone. Condolences to Stephanie and Jason for all their efforts to keep it going coming to an end. Sad for students, members and boat owners. Afterguard Sailing Academy in Oakland, can offer a helping hand and welcome for those who wish to keep sailing and taking courses.

So sad. Joined OCSC in the dark ages. They folded. Then joined CN. Got lots of grief for my OCSC cap! Now what??

Light 'em up!
While the rain and king tides are putting a damper on outdoor activity, we thought it would be nice to bring a warm winter glow to the day by sharing a few more photos from last month's lighted boat parades.
