The OYRA Crewed Farallones Race ended in tragedy today when James Bradford’s Sydney 38 Low Speed Chase somehow ended up on the rocks at the Southeast Farallon. USCG Petty Officer Levi Read confirmed the well-known offshore race boat went aground around 3 p.m. Tragically, one person is confirmed dead and four people are missing. Two Coast Guard boats are currently on scene. Three crew were pulled from the rocks by helos. Their status is unknown. Conditions for the race weren’t unusual for this time of year — 25-knot winds and 10-ft seas. But, it’s not known what role wind and wave action played in the sloop’s grounding.
