Since the publication
of our first issue in 1977, Latitude 38 has championed
a way of life with a style unique among sailing magazines. Often
imitated but never matched, we've gone from that funky regional
publication to a laid-back California standard to an "alternative"
authority for sailors across the nation and around the world.
Style, readability,
wide-ranging demographics, long shelf life: those are just a
few of the reasons Latitude 38 offers advertisers the
best value in the market today. Another important one is reasonable
rates. Like everybody else who discovers the magazine, you'll
be in for a pleasant surprise.
DISTRIBUTION
Latitude 38 has the largest distribution of
any marine publication in Northern California.We distribute 45,000 copies on
the 1st of each month. Approximately 2,000 copies are mailed
to subscribers. 34,000 are delivered free to marine businesses,
clubs and recreational areas in Northern California. 7,000 are
delivered free in Southern California stores with an additional
2,000 split between the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii and Mexico.
Our monthly circulation is frequently increased due to our participation
in Northern and Southern California boat shows.

- All display ads and art materials: 13th of the month prior to publication
- Cancellations will not be accepted after deadline date.

COLOR
Yes, we accept four-color ads!
Spot colors are also available as follows:
- Red: 100% Magenta, 70% Yellow
- Blue: 100% Cyan, 25% Magenta
- Green: 80% Cyan, 90% Yellow
- Yellow: 100% Yellow
- Use 4-color process for spot colors
ART FILES
Artwork must include a proof copy for verification purposes. Please read below for specifics.
(Note: We cannot accept film, or files created from Corel Draw,
or Microsoft products such as PowerPoint, Word or Publisher.
Color ads sent for black & white reproduction are
not considered 'camera-ready' and may not work at all in black
& white. Latitude 38 will either return the ads for
a corrected version, or, if possible, make the necessary adjustments
with our normal graphic service charges added.)
All color ads must be in CMYK, not RGB.
Artwork should be provided as:
- EPS or PDF files with fully embedded or embedded
subset fonts.
- Black type set to overprint
and be black only; avoid four-color black type.
- White or light-color typeset to knock out.
- No crop marks or registration
marks.
- Please remove all Photoshop
ICC tags (no color management). No OPI.
- TIFF or JPEG logos, line art and graphics containing type should be 600 dpi.
- Black & white photos at 170 dpi with small highlight areas at 0%, mid-tone
range 30-40%, and shadow areas not to exceed 75%.
- Four-color photos at 200 dpi, small highlights 0%, mid-tones
50-110%, blacks no darker than 75%, and not exceed 230% total color density.
(Above percentages are for best contrast reproduction as dot gain on newsprint is 20-25%.)
- Native files along with all fonts and placed images in InDesign, PageMaker, QuarkXpress or Illustrator.
- Photos alone can be sent as TIFFs or JPEGs, at 300 dpi. Logos or line art at 600 dpi.
- Artwork can be sent to our FTP site. Host: ftp.latitude38.com; Userid: latitude;
Password: Lat4tudE. Fax a proof to: (415) 383-5816, indicating
art is on our FTP site.
- Email compressed artwork (compression not needed
for PDFs or JPEGs) to Chris, then fax a proof copy of ad to:

BILLING
On all new accounts
payment is due with the space reservation. After three ads have been placed, terms are NET
due the 19th of the month. Bills must be paid on due date
in order for Frequency Discounts to be taken. Returned check
fee: $20. Visa, MasterCard and American Express accepted. Returned
check fee: $25.
Co-Op Ads: There is a 30% surcharge on all co-op ads with four or more dealers.
Advertising Agencies: Recognized agencies may take a maximum 15% discount. Frequency discounts do not apply.
Agency discount of 15% does not apply for bills paid after due date.
