Photo of the Day

May 29 – Richardson Bay

We were about to go out sailing yesterday, when we noticed this
powerboat rumbling down the Sausalito Channel . . . with a serious
growth on her chin. Did the skipper not know it was there, or
did he just not care? In any event, it didn’t do much for the
lines of the boat.

Master Mariners’ Regatta

May 29 – San Francisco Bay

Saturday was the annual Master Mariners’ Regatta. John Riise
was there with Latitude 38’s photoboat, and here is some
of what he saw. We’ll have an 8.5 page feature in the July issue.
If you’ve got any good stories from the regatta, you might email
John.

Still Stumped

May 29 – Mystery Location

In the May 25 ‘Lectronic, we
published some racy – but not as in ‘yacht racy’ – photos and
asked if anyone could identify what waterfront party event they
came from. ‘Hazardous Waste’ – which we presume is a boat name
rather than a skipper’s name – said, “It has to be Sydney,
Australia, right around Mardi Gras. We’re soon to visit.”
Well, Mr. Waste, it doesn’t have to be Sydney or around Mardi
Gras. In fact, the event takes place in the latter half of the
year and in the Northern Hemisphere. Jim Barrow guessed the Exotic
Erotic Ball – but we already said it doesn’t take place in San
Francisco. Here are some more photos to try and help you with
your guesses. Email responses to Richard.

SF
Giants to Sponsor a Charterboat

May 29 – San Francisco

The San Francisco Giants, in partnership
with Private Charters LLC and the Angel Island-Tiburon Ferry Company,
will sponsor a charter vessel on San Francisco Bay. McCovey
Cove Patrol
is a 70-ft long, 24-ft wide tour boat with 115-person
capacity.

We
Have a Winner

May 29 – Napa River

On May 23, we ran this photo of a sportfishing
boat in distress and asked for photo captions. Once again we
were deluged with entries. Our favorite was from Cliff Horne:

“BCDC unveils ‘brave new vision’ for
consolidated Bay Area marina. BCDC’s Director says, ‘The single
berth should be more than adequate to meet our projections for
future demand. Preference will be given to the boat that best
‘blends in’ with the natural surroundings.'”

We also liked Lance’s entry: “I can
join you for a sail as soon as I’m done mowing the slip.”

The De-Naming Ceremony
I once met a man in Florida who told me he’d owned 24 different yachts and renamed every single one of them.
