These happy campers are the crew of Orange
Coast College’s flagship, Alaska Eagle, kicking back with
a barbecue at Two Harbors, Catalina Island, after their delivery
south from Pacific Sail Expo in Oakland.

Sojourn in SoCal

May 1 – Two Harbors, Catalina Island

On her way up the coast, after a stop at the busier Avalon, Latitude
38’s catamaran Profligate visited the less crowded
part of Catalina Island. This is a beautiful time of year there,
with wildflowers in bloom and green grass. These photos were
taken at 2:00 pm on a Sunday, and, as you can see, the place
wasn’t exactly overrun with tourists.

When the Webmistress was there midweek
in dry, dusty August, those picnic benches in the top photo,
at Isthmus Cove where the ferry boats land, were full of folks.
The side of the isthmus facing away from LA, Catalina Harbor,
is never as crowded (bottom photo).

While sojourning in SoCal, the Wanderer
had the great good fortune of sailing on an Oracle Racing America’s
Cup boat. He will return tomorrow a report and photos.
