April 30 - Ensenada

The 54th Annual Newport to Ensenada Race was held on April 27 and 28 with festivities and awards on the 29th.

The Newport to Ensenada Race bills itself as the world's largest international yacht race. Judging by the crowd gathered at the Bahia Hotel in Ensenada, we believe it!

An enormous quantity of trophies were given out at the awards ceremony yesterday. For the long, long list of results, see the Newport Ocean Sailing Association Web site at www.nosa.org.

Oracle Racing Signs with Golden Gate Yacht Club

April 30 - San Francisco

The Golden Gate Yacht Club submitted the required entry to the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, as the 10th Challenger in the race for the 2003 America's Cup Challenge, naming Oracle Racing as their team. Friday's announcement ended months of negotiation and speculation about where the team would come home to roost.

Oracle Racing spent the winter training on New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf and is now sailing out of their summer facility in Ventura. The Ventura base is home to the two Oracle Racing training boats as well as to the team of 100 individuals, and today it is hosting the Wanderer, who will return tomorrow from a trip to SoCal with "tons of pictures".
