San Francisco Bay Sailing on Sunny Saturdays

We’re looking forward to another nice weekend on the Bay. The 315 boats signed up for Saturday’s Three Bridge Fiasco should have a challenging but pleasant time getting around the course. For everyone else, it should just be a nice day of sailing.

In our recent podcast with Dr. Paul Heineken, he mentioned how much fun he, Johnny and Erika had while sailing on 29ers. We wondered how many are still sailing the Bay. We then came across two sailing in Raccoon Strait last Saturday. We caught a few other shots of boats just looking good while enjoying light, warm January breezes.

    Dear Editor,

That is a Frisco Flyer, built of lapstrake plank on frame of teak, by Choey Lee, not a Folkboat.

Bill – thanks for the correction. Didn’t look quite right but looked close and we went with it. Appreciate the enlightenment!

That Frisco Flyer is owned by a friend of ours whose father used to live on its back in the early 70’s. Will managed to acquire it years later and has restored it beautifully. Our son, Saben, is at the tiller The wives are sitting forward. Wow! I’m amazed. Especially since we are expected to go to 15 below zero here in Maine this weekend. Break out the iceboat!

Thanks for the insights. Nothing we like better than smiles aboard a pretty boat sliding nicely through the Bay. Their smiles make us smile. Great to hear from someone in Maine as well. Our family in Maine keeps us in close touch with our contrasting weather. Ice boating, pond hockey and summer sailing are among many good things about Maine.
